Blue is an extremely versatile color to paint the exterior of your home. It can be soft and soothing or bold and modern depending on the shade, and it always pops beautifully against green foliage. But many blue paint colors that shine when used for interiors can look overwhelming on exteriors in direct sunlight, so it’s important to do your research first.
In this list, I share my five favorite BEHR blue exterior paint colors, which you can find at any location of The Home Depot. These colors are suitable for everything from traditional historic homes to modern new builds. If you’re open to other paint brands, check out all of my top exterior blue paint colors.

BEHR Adirondack Blue
First, let’s start with BEHR’s most popular exterior blue… Adirondack Blue. It’s a perfectly balanced denim that has just enough gray to not appear garish in direct sun but still reads as a true blue. With a Light Reflective Value (LRV) of 23, meaning that it reflects 23% of the light that hits it, BEHR Adirondack Blue will appear as a medium blue in direct sunlight and closer to navy in dark shadows, as seen on the home above. It’s a true blue that has a touch of warmth to it, so it doesn’t appear too gray or chalky.

BEHR Shipwreck
If you’re looking for a bold but not over-the-top dark blue, BEHR Shipwreck is a beautiful option. It has enough green in it to lean toward teal but still reads as blue, even in direct sunlight. It has an interesting brown undertone, which provides a warmer muting effect than the gray undertone in Adirondack Blue. With an LRV of 13, Shipwreck is a true dark blue that offers a striking contrast against white trim and colorful accents, like on the home above.

BEHR Midnight Blue
If you’re looking for BEHR’s answer to Benjamin Moore’s famous Hale Navy, look no further than BEHR Midnight Blue. With an LRV of just 9, this paint color packs a dramatic punch, especially against high-contrast light trim. Midnight Blue feels like a deep charcoal with blue undertones. If you like this color but would prefer more blue pigment, check out Hale Navy.

BEHR Teton Blue
For my light blue lovers, this one’s for you. BEHR Teton Blue is technically a medium blue with an LRV of 31, but that’s ideal for exteriors that receive bright direct sunlight. Notice how light this color looks in direct sunlight on the house above. A true light blue would read more like white in the sun. Teton Blue will always reads as blue no matter the light, and its gray undertone softens it beautifully.

BEHR Nocturne Blue
If you’re looking to make a bold statement with your exterior, look no further than BEHR Nocturne Blue. This blackened teal has an LRV of just 7, making it the darkest of the bunch. But the color is so vibrant that it appears surprisingly lighter. BEHR describes Nocturne Blue as the deep sky color when “the world transitions from day to nightfall,” and I love that description. Twilight sky lovers, this is for you. This punchy blue works beautifully on modern homes, especially ones that receive ample direct sunlight.

BEHR Juniper Ash
And then finally we have the color of my parents’ home… BEHR Juniper Ash! This is a beautiful deep blue green with an LRV of 23, the same as Adirondack Blue. But Juniper Ash reads much warmer thanks to the green undertone and pairs beautifully with natural wood and dark green contrast trim, like on my parents’ home. I’ll share the paint combination below, in case it’s helpful…
