Medium greens don’t get enough praise. As a dark green lover myself, I rarely venture into the medium shades, but there are some good ones out there. And I may have a few bookmarked for a future project…!
But first, what is a medium paint color? It’s a color with a Light Reflectance Value (LRV) of about 40–60, meaning that it reflects roughly half of the light that hits its surface. So these are the perfect chameleon colors that can look dark and moody in a shaded room or light and bright but never white in a room with lots of sun. Let’s get into it. Here are my five favorite Benjamin Moore medium green paint colors.

Benjamin Moore Aganthus Green
If you like a green that reads as a true green and not blue, BM Aganthus Green is a great option for you. It has a muted herbal feel to it, and with an LRV of 50.37, it will look light and fresh in direct sun and slightly darker and richer in the shade, like in the kitchen above. I love that BM Aganthus Green is neither too yellow nor too gray, but still feels muted and sophisticated. If you’re a fan of greenware pottery, you’ll recognize that this color is also a perfect celadon green.

Benjamin Moore Hollingsworth Green
If you like the look of BM Aganthus Green but want something lighter and slightly cooler, look no further than BM Hollingsworth Green. With an LRV of 63.25, this color sits right on the border of a medium and light paint color, meaning that it may be a great option for you in a shadier room that you don’t want feeling too moody. With a touch of blue undertone, this green is cool and relaxing, perfect for a space that you want to feel zen, like a bedroom or bathroom.

Benjamin Moore Kittery Point Green
It’s warm, it’s fresh, it’s BM Kittery Point Green. This color is perfectly balanced with a gray undertone and a touch of blue without feeling cool, and it has an LRV of 55.98 that is on the lighter end of the medium color spectrum. Benjamin Moore describes this color as a “lush pistachio hue that can bring quaint charm to any space,” and I love that description. This is a perfect cheerful but still sophisticated green.

Benjamin Moore Prescott Green
If you want a medium green that feels a little softer and more old world, look to BM Prescott Green. This powdery gray green has a healthy dose of blue, which means that it will change throughout the day in different lights. It has a similar lightness to BM Kittery Point Green with an LRV of 55.76, but is less pigmented and more tranquil. BM Prescott Green looks soft but striking when color drenching a formal room, like in the sitting room above.

Benjamin Moore Van Alen Green
And finally, we have the lightest and brightest of the bunch, BM Van Alen Green. With an LRV of 64.32, this color borders on the medium to light end of the spectrum and ends up looking like a cheerful pastel green. I would call this the lighter cousin of BM Kittery Point Green, as it has a similar pistachio-like quality due to the touch of blue. It also reminds me of mint chip ice cream. Try this color in a shaded room for a very sophisticated but still fresh-feeling green.
