There’s something about a good thriller audiobook that makes it way too easy to lose track of time. Give me a suspenseful story, a narrator who knows exactly how to build the tension, and a long drive or a few hours of DIY projects, and I’m hooked.

I’ve listened to a lot of audiobooks over the years, but thrillers are easily one of my favorite genres for quickly passing the time. The right audiobook can make an already-good thriller even better, especially when the narrator brings the characters to life and somehow makes every plot twist feel even more shocking.
So if you’re looking for your next listen, I’ve rounded up 10 of the best thriller audiobooks I’ve listened to WITH NO SPOILERS. 1. The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides
If you’re into thrillers at all, I’m sure you’ve seen The Silent Patient pop up as a recommendation. It’s one of the top rated thrillers for a reason. The story unfolds as a psychotherapist helps a woman who stopped speaking after a horrific event, and we slowly learn her story. There are lots of twists and turns, and the narrator does a beautiful job of taking you on the journey. I won’t say any more for fear of spoilers, but I highly recommend this audiobook!
2. Oracle 2: The Dreamland Murders by Andrew Pyper
Oracle 2: The Dreamland Murders is a full cast production complete with sound effects for a fully immersive experience. It’s the sequel to Oracle, also read by Joshua Jackson (Dawson’s Creek), but for the first book he was the sole narrator. Both audiobooks follow a psychic FBI agent (Jackson) as he uses his unique gifts to solve murders. This second installment is even spookier and more paranormal, which also makes it a perfect Halloween listen. There were definitely some parts of the audiobook that were so well done that it made me afraid of the dark for a few hours. A job well done! There is also an Oracle 3 where Jackson goes back to solo narration, but unfortunately I didn’t find it nearly as good as the second. 3. Mad Love by Wendy Walker
Mad Love is a fast-paced psychological thriller that follows a young woman whose life takes an unexpected turn when she becomes entangled with a man who seems almost too good to be true. As the story unfolds, things become increasingly complicated, and you’re left questioning who you can actually trust. It’s twisty, suspenseful, and full of the kind of secrets that make you want to keep listening just to find out what happens next. Plus, it has a full cast of narrators, including my favorite… Julia Whelan! This is an Audible Original, which is included for free with an Audible subscription.
4. The Room Next Door by Wendy Walker
Here’s another Wendy Walker for you! The Room Next Door is a suspenseful psychological thriller following a woman who becomes increasingly concerned about what’s happening behind the closed door of the room next door. It’s tense, twisty, and full of those little moments that make you think you’ve figured everything out, only to change your mind a few chapters later. This is another ensemble cast including my favorite narrator Julia Whelan, and it’s an Audible Original, which means it’s available for free with an Audible subscription.
5. Game of Nines by James Patterson
Game of Nines is a fast-paced thriller narrated by Shailene Woodley (Big Little Lies, Divergent) that throws you right into a mystery with plenty of twists and turns along the way. It’s about a young FBI agent who becomes caught up in a dangerous game after receiving a mysterious message from a serial killer, and what starts out as a strange puzzle quickly turns into something much more serious. I know that’s vague, but it’s on purpose! I want you to be surprised. It’s also a quick listen, so it’s great for shorter projects or road trips. Again, this is an Audible Original, available for free with an Audible subscription.
6. Hunting Game by Candice Fox
Okay, sorry, yes we have another Audible Original coming your way. They really invest in creating a lot of original thrillers! Hunting Game is narrated by a full cast including Anthony Mackie (Marvel) and Tony Goldwyn (Scandal), and led by Krysten Ritter (Jessica Jones). Ritter plays a detective who is torn between her duty and personal priorities when she’s sent to help a controversial big pharma CEO whose child is kidnapped. Lots of great performances here, it’s fully immersive, and clocks in at under five hours for a quick, adrenaline-spiking listen.
7. This Story Might Save Your Life by Tiffany Crum
This Story Might Save Your Life follows a woman whose seemingly ordinary life takes a very unexpected turn, and from there, things get increasingly complicated. Vague, right? Sorry, I said no spoilers! It’s a great pick if you like psychological thrillers with plenty of twists, complicated characters, and that constant feeling that there’s something you haven’t figured out yet. The audiobook features dual narrators including my favorite narrator of all time, Julia Whelan. You’re always in good hands with her.
8. Listen for the Lie by Amy Tintera
As the author’s post above says… Listen for the Lie won the 2025 Audie Award for Best Mystery! If you haven’t heard of the Audies, they’re essentially the Oscars for audiobook narration. This audiobook has dual narrators who tell the story of a man who leads a true crime podcast called Listen for the Lie and the woman whom he investigates for her best friend’s mysterious death. And it somehow also manages to be funny! A great listen for anyone who likes a less formulaic thriller.
9. Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn
Is Gone Girl the number one best thriller of the 21st century? The New York Times Book Review sure thinks so! And the audiobook doesn’t disappoint. It features dual narrators including my beloved Julia Whelan as the titular gone girl, Amy Dunne. The story follows a couple as they’re about to celebrate their fifth wedding anniversary when the wife Amy suddenly disappears, and her husband Nick becomes the prime suspect in her potential murder. Chaos ensues, and a fascinating story unfolds.
10. The Ratcatcher by Anthony Khaseria
I don’t understand how more people don’t know about The Ratcatcher. Maybe because it’s translated from the original German, or maybe because Audible tried to classify it as a podcast. But either way, thriller lovers need to know about this full cast dramatized production that takes you on a wild ride as a detective goes to a small town to investigate the disappearance of multiple children, tied to an old German fairytale. It’s one of the best thriller audiobooks I’ve listened to by far with plenty of twists that you won’t see coming. Even better… there’s now The Ratcatcher 2! And it sounds like a third is on the way.
